Melih R. Esenbel, in a period when Turkey’s foreign relations were very sensitive, served as Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, ambassador to Washington D.C. (1960, 1967-1974 and 1975-1979), and Tokyo (1963), and the Minister of Foreign Affairs (November 1974-March 1975. Donated by his daughter, Prof. Selçuk Esenbel, a faculty member in the Department of History at Boğaziçi University, this collection includes his correspondences, photographs, and personal notes on important events during his tenure as an ambassador and the Minister of Foreign Affairs. The correspondences between Vyacheslav Mikhailovich Molotov and İsmet İnönü, his notes about the Truman Doctrine and the Marshall Aid, his personal assessments on the U-2 incident and the U.S presidents, his personal notes on the agreement between Turkey and the U.S on Cyprus and the Turkish forein policy, photographs of his trips abroad with Adnan Menderes, and drafts of his biography constitute a significant part of this collection.
